Born in Klagenfurt, Austria, in 1960, Dietmar Franz grew up in Kappel am Krappfeld. After his degree course in educational studies in Klagenfurt from 1982 to 1985, he moved to Vienna where he devoted himself fully to the pursuit of art. In 2001 and 2003 nearly all his works were destroyed in studio fires which occurred beyond his control. The first studio was Atelier im Apostelhof, and the second one Staatsatelier Westbahnstrasse. His works have been displayed in solo and group exhibitions since 1987 and can be found in numerous collections. Dietmar Franz lives and works in Vienna.
