Loredana Nemes was born in Sibiu, Romania, in 1972. She escaped Romania in 1986 and moved to Aachen, where she studied German philology and mathematics at RWTH Aachen university from 1993 until 1999. In 2001, she moved to Berlin and has been working as a freelance artist ever since. Since 2006, she has taught several courses in photography at the Weissensee Academy of Art Berlin, the Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, Hartford Art University in Connecticut, USA, and the Goethe Institute in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She has won several awards and prizes, such as the VG-Bild-Kunst grant in 2006, the Grenzgänger grant of the Robert Bosch Foundation in 2013, the Lead Award in the “portrait” category in 2016, and the Ludwigsburg Museum grant in 2020. Her work has been shown internationally in solo exhibitions, for instance at the Berlinische Galerie, Berlin (2018), the Ludwig Forum, Aachen (2021), and the Kunstverein Konstanz (2022). Loredana Nemes has been a member of the German Photographic Academy since 2017. She lives and works in Berlin.
