The paintings by this artist, who also worked as an architect, are abstract and have no object right from the start; however, they are by no means lacking in form. The material properties and intrinsic value of the colours and surfaces are central to his artistic inspiration. Gerhard Lojen's early abstract material works placed him among the ranks of the most important founders and representatives of abstract painting in Austria after 1945.
