A diverse range of image materials from many different media sources forms the starting point of Ulrich Lamsfuß’s work. Based on a fascination with imagery, he transfers images to painting based on the principle of ‘Everything is said, just not by everyone’ and allows the painting process to give rise to a new reality which, through its reproduction, broaches the issues of truth and illusion in images.

Ulrich Lamsfuss meticulously transfers photographs into painting, addressing questions about reality  and illusion, beauty and truth, medialisation and perception. He takes his models from the vast flood of information available to us at the present time, selected from different areas of the media ranging from fashion and science magazines to film and advertising, as well as art history. Taking the photograph as a media product based on reality as a starting point, his image transcriptions are presented in a new concept, showing a new reality, a new illusion.
