Hans Op de Beeck, best known as a sculptor of imposing, space-filling installations, has also made a name for himself as a painter, film and stage director and choreographer. His sculptural installations, reduced to the colours white, grey and black, invite viewers to immerse themselves in fantasy worlds that oscillate between fiction, dreams and reality. In his watercolours, some of them in large formats, Op de Beeck remains faithful to his preferred colour scheme and restricts himself to black and white. Just like in his installations, the landscapes and figures do not reflect reality: They are pure fiction and the product of his creative imagination, which draws inspiration from the stillness and darkness of night.
