Rolling Roses, 2020 Rolling Roses, 2020 Wolfgang Walkensteiner, Rolling Roses, 2020
, Egg tempera on canvas, 180 x 135 cm
Kollitsch Collection

The works of Wolfang Walkensteiner’s current creative period once again explore the question of existence and the relation between perception and reality. To create his pictures, he cuts out elements from his own earlier works and fits them into his new creations in an intarsia-like technique. These dynamics bring forth powerful, abstract entities with great plastic impact that appear to float weightlessly in space and that are usually based on tiny clay models shaped by the artist. By harking back to his own, finished paintings, Walkensteiner breaks with linearity in his oeuvre, evoking the unity of space, time, and all of existence through artful dimensional play.
